About Me
My name is Gary Colbath and I am the current Vice President for ABA. I still consider myself a “new” Alaskan, having moved here in 2016, although I have bow-hunted the state since 1999. I was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota. I moved to the Valley in September, 2016 and live near the Butte in Palmer. I began bow hunting in high school when a good friend and his dad introduced me to it. Although it took me three years to harvest my first whitetail deer, (a young 3×3), I was hooked from the start.
Bow hunting is a lifestyle for me and is something that is involved with almost all aspects of my life. I have hunted in most of the western states, as well as several provinces in Canada, Mexico and Greenland. I have taken many animals with archery equipment and have harvested 16 animals towards my goal of completing the North American 29. I am a certified Bow Hunter Education Instructor and a long time volunteer in many hunting, conservation and youth hunting groups.
Serving the ABA as Vice President is an honor as the organization’s mission represents values close to my heart. I plan to represent Alaskan bow hunters and all hunters to protect our right to hunt, expand hunting opportunities, educate new bow hunters, and recruit new people, young and old, into the archery family we all love so much.
